Here and There: Contours Real and Imagined | 2 Pillsbury Street | Press Release

Two NH Art Association artists on display at 2 Pillsbury Street

CONCORD – Two New Hampshire Art Association artists have joined together to create an art exhibit, “Here and There: Contours Real and Imagined,” at 2 Pillsbury StreetThis exhibit features abstract painter Janet Tamulevich and realist painter Peggy Murray.

“As an artist, I look at the world in a different and more intimate way,” Tamulevich said. “I see trees that are not green. They come in every shape, size and color. The sky is constantly changing, creating endless combinations of shapes and colors.”

Tamulevich of Bedford said there is something magical about foggy evenings and misty mornings.

“It is nature’s kaleidoscope of patterns, textures and colors which inspire my abstract paintings,” she said. “The tactile properties of mixed media is my medium choice for my paintings. Each one of my paintings is unique.”

In addition to being a juried member of the NHAA, Tamulevich is a juried member of the League of NH craftsmen, and a member of the Manchester Artists Association, where she was named Artist of the Month in January 2017.

Originally from California, Murray has lived in New Hampshire for more than 30 years. She enjoys painting plein air with other artists she’s painted with for almost 20 years.

She is a long time member of New Hampshire Art Association and her work can viewed there as well as at Ceres Gallery in Portsmouth, NH.  She has lent her skills as artist and teacher to many nonprofit organizations around the Seacoast.

Light is the primary driver for Murray, but these days she is reaching for a resonance in the colors used to create the light and dark planes.

“I think of the colors on my palette as the actors in a play,” Murray said. “Each color has a role to play, and every role, no matter how small, is important for creating a reality on the canvas. This process of learning about color is slowing me down, making me spend more time looking and exploring, and looking again. I find satisfaction more elusive, but I keep showing up ready to roll up my sleeves.”

Both artists said they are planning to configure their pieces to fit graciously within the exhibit spaces, enhancing each other’s work.
