For the last 20 years, Darlene has primarily been a painter and printmaker. Experimentation has always played a large part in her creations. More recently, her paintings explore mixed-media abstraction and painting from memory. These days, her artworks are more like scientific experiments. By adding or subtracting forms, colors, subject matter, texture and mark-making, creating comes from a gut-level, intuitive sensibility. Her subject matter is mostly environmental, choosing not to emulate nature but to convey her experience felt within it.
