‘Fresh View – A New Perspective’

NHAA’s 33 rd annual Lassonde Juried Exhibition

PORTSMOUTH - PORTSMOUTH – Artists were invited to interpret the theme, “Fresh View – A New Perspective,” for the 33rd annual Omer T. Lassonde juried exhibition being shown during April at the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery.

The NHAA received an overwhelming amount of impressive submissions from members and non-members, and of 244 individual entries, the juror selected 97 works for the show. This year’s juror was Kate Kostopoulos, director of the Chase Young Gallery in Boston, Massachusetts. Each year the NHAA hosts a juried exhibition in honor of Omer T. Lassonde, who as Administrator of the WPA Federal Arts Project in his native New Hampshire, helped found the New Hampshire Art Association in 1940 to exhibit and further the work of contemporary artists throughout the state. Lassonde is perhaps most famous for the year he spent painting the landscape and native life of West Samoa in 1930. In 1947, Ben Bradlee, late editor of The Washington Post, claimed that Lassonde had “done more than any man living to put New Hampshire on the map artistically.” As a tribute to his artistic legacy, his widow donated the Boscawen house and his many paintings to the New Hampshire Art Association after his death in 1980.
