Maryclare J Heffernan ~ Artist Bio
I find the beauty of the landscape and nature thrilling. When I paint I strive to capture the emotions evoked by the ever-changing light and energy of the sky or sea or field. I hope my paintings express the feelings beneath the surface and beyond the moment.
I’ve come to the world of art late in life and it is not only a surprise but a joyful and deeply satisfying journey.
When I inherited many of my artist father’s paints and brushes I stored them in old cigar boxes until I began painting with my artist sisters. Since those first thrilling days of painting I’ve studied watercolor and oil painting at the New Hampshire Institute of Art, Ogunquit Summer School of Art, and most recently in Italy with a number of wonderfully talented artists and teachers.
I see the colors of the sugar maple leaves in the fall, the tiny intricate feathers on the chickadees and goldfinches outside the kitchen window and that elusive space where the sky and water touch as captivating and thrilling. The seeing and learning is endless which makes this unexpected journey sweeter by the moment.
I live and paint in and around New Hampshire, New England and wherever I find myself.
My paintings have been included in numerous juried art shows and galleries and are in many private collections throughout the United States.
