DaNice D Marshall

DaNice D Marshall (pronounced DUh-NYSE) is a born writer, who in 2016, became sick with a rare incurable disease named, Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis. It left her with permanent lung damage, hearing loss and unable to walk without a cane. After 28 days in the hospital, doctors sent DaNice home to set her house in order and write a will, but she didn’t die. DaNice who hadn’t painted before, found a discarded canvas and started painting abstracts, as she puts it “mostly to watch the paint dry”. Eventually her work evolved to the narrative art that she makes today. DaNice was awarded Boston’s Faye Chandler Emerging Artist Award in 2023. She is a Mass Cultural Council grantee and a 2024 MassMOCA Fellow.

In February 2025, the Governor of Massachusetts presented DaNice with a Visual Art Citation. During the month of September 2025, DaNice was named a #RareArtist Finalist, received a Collective Futures Fund Grant from the Andy Warhol Foundation and won NHAA Bicentennial 2- Best in Show Award. DaNice lives with her husband Ben, and their dog Tigger outside of Boston.
