Jack Parfitt was an active in his community as well as being an adventurer and expert photographer who spent his last 12 years traveling extensively. His travels included Russia, China, Afghanistan, Morocco and Iceland and Africa. He was given unheard of permission to photograph the Great Wall of China. He shared his art with the community and state by composing a series of slides and lecture presentations. Jack was a board member of the NH Art Association and they have a memorial art exhibit in his name every year. His art was displayed at the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery in Portsmouth, NH.
Gary Samson is an award-winning filmmaker and photographer, Samson goal for his work is to create comprehensive pictorial histories and to document people and culture. Samson developed his love of photography while working at the Manchester Historic Association, where he made contact prints from its archived glass-negative collection that documents the city of Manchester and the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company. The work impressed upon him that photography can be an important tool for sharing history and culture with wide audiences. Throughout his career, Samson’s commitment to creating and preserving photographic collections for future generations has inspired him to produce both films and exhibitions on New Hampshire history and culture. Samson’s work is in private and public collections including the Currier Museum of Art, the University of New Hampshire and the National Archives in Washington, D.C. Currently the Bachelor of Fine Arts Photography Chairperson at the New Hampshire Institute of Art, he has received two visual artist fellowships from the N.H. State Council on the Arts. “I am extremely honored and delighted to serve as the next Artist Laureate of New Hampshire,” said Samson.
